The problem is bigger than we thought.

Type “JASP” into Google. The first result: not us. JASP Statistics – an American open-source software for statistical analysis. Second result? Also not us. Workshops, communities, installation guides. And us? Page 8. Out of 22,100 search results.

This isn’t just a visibility problem. It’s a recognition problem.

People searching for our intranet solution don’t find us. They find the wrong JASP. And then we’ve lost. Not because our solution is bad. But because Google doesn’t understand who we are.

We recognized this. Now we’re working to change it.

Why Google Overlooks Us

It sounds absurd: how can Google not find us when we’re jasp.eu?

The answer lies in semantics. Google sees multiple “JASPs” and has to decide which is relevant. And when an American open-source software is much older, heavily linked, and frequently mentioned – it ranks higher. Automatically. Regardless of the fact that it has nothing to do with us.

To Google, “JASP” is simply ambiguous. Like “Amazon” – could be the company, could be the river, could be a book. Google has to guess.

And until recently, we haven’t said clearly enough: “No, we’re NOT the statistics software. We’re a consulting firm for digital workplaces. With products for Staffbase and Microsoft 365.”

That’s changing now.

What We’re Actually Doing

Over the past few weeks, we completely rebuilt our websites. Not for design reasons. But with a mission: to show Google clearly who we are.

1. Structured Data That Google Understands

We’ve added JSON-LD structured data to our websites. It’s like a note for Google that says: “This is JASP. This is a consulting firm. These are our products. This is our address. These are real customer experiences.” Google then doesn’t just see words on a page – it understands what those words mean.

2. Clear Product Structure

Before: everything mixed together. Now: Widget Builder is Widget Builder. Search Connector is Search Connector. APT (Automatic Page Translator) is its own product. No confusion.

3. Better Readability Equals Longer Engagement

A page nobody understands gets abandoned quickly. So we rebuilt our magazine articles: optimal line lengths (not too long, not too short), tables of contents for navigation, collapsible sections for complexity. The signal to Google: “This page has real information, and users stay longer.”

4. Meta Descriptions That Don’t Confuse

Every page tells Google clearly: this is who I am. This is my focus. Not a generalist answer like “JASP: We’re a consulting firm.” But specifically: “Widget Builder: Custom widgets for Staffbase without code.”

Being Honest: It’s Not Enough Yet

But to be honest? It’s not enough yet. Page 8 is still page 8. Google trusts established websites more than new signals. And American JASP Statistics has a 20-year head start.

The SEO optimization isn’t complete. It’s just beginning.

What really helps: links. When other websites link to jasp.eu – especially relevant websites from partners, customers, media – then Google says: “Okay, this is obviously important.” That’s the strongest SEO signal there is.
